Regular Council Meeting

February 6, 2017 6:30 p.m.


The February 2017 council meeting was called to order by Mayor Sarah Kimmet with the following council members present: Christina Young, Gloria Leiter, Paul Price, Tom Emery, Marjorie Clement, and Doug Price.


The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

Paul Price moved to pay all bills. Christina Young seconded the motion. Motion carried.


Old Business

Councilman Emery asked the council to consider purchasing new letters for the village display at a cost of approximately $55.00. Doug Price moved to do so while Leiter seconded the motion. Motion carried.


Ordinance 2017-1, pertaining to entering into an agreement with Scott Gordon as the village solicitor, was read. Christina Young moved to enter into this 2-year agreement. Clement seconded the motion. Motion carried.


New Business

The fiscal officer told council members that she had been contacted about beginning the village audit. It should begin within the next few months.


Leiter inquired about the village’s ability to have alcohol sold and served for a local winery is looking for a place to relocate. Discussion was held about no available space in the village and the fact that the township is “dry”.


It was noted that there is a street light not working properly on Main Street.


There continues to be barking dog issues within the village. Residents are asked to be considerate of others in this matter.


A discussion about a semi-trailer parked too far from the curb on Main Street, making traffic unsafe, was also had. The Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office will be contacted.


It was decided that Plum Street has holes that need patched. Leiter will contact Jeff Coil about the cost of this job.


At 7:02 p.m. Paul Price moved for adjournment. The next meeting will be March 6, 2017. Meeting adjourned.
