Calling All Young Adults
Come join us in Sunday School this Fall as we begin an exciting new study by Philip Yancey.
We meet in the kitchen, and this Fall we will be using a video to talk about "The Jesus I Never Knew." This video, by Philip Yancey, an editor at Christianity Today, takes clips from various movie and media representations of Christ and puts them along side of Scripture as it challenges our views on Jesus and challenges us to experience Christ from new perspectives.
Lets explore our faith and understanding of Christ together. The only requirements are an open-mind and a willingness to explore your faith and understanding. Bring your babies and toddlers, there are plenty of toys and laps available.
(Note to "young adults at heart" who think this sounds interesting: the Adult Bible Study, which will start up again in October, will also be using this material.) |

Pianist Wanted
We are looking for someone to play beautiful music each Wednesday we have junior choir from 4:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and each Sunday the choir sings.
The salary is small but the appreciation is big. If you would like to volunteer, contact Wendy at 667-2408. |
Gymanfa Ganu
On September 3rd, 2000, at 7:00 p.m., the annual Gymanfa Ganu will be held at Salem Presbyterian Church. Mr. Geraint Wilkes and Mr. Trevor Williams will be leading the Gymanfa. Mr. Wilkes will be the director and Mr. Williams is assisting with special music. Both are natives of Wales now living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
This will be an inspiring program of sacred Welsh music, glorifying god by singing praises to His name.
Mr. Wilkes is returning for his third appearance directing a Gymanfa Ganu in Venedocia. The music you hear coming from the church on September 3rd, 2000 will cause your heart to beat a little faster and your whole being to rejoice.
If you like to sing and participate in good music, come on September 3rd, 2000 and join in four part congregational singing, or if you just want to listen, come hear the inspiring music, sung in praise to God.
Prior to the Gymanfa, the Women’s Association will again serve a light supper in the church basement. A free will offering will be received for the supper, which will be served from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Junior Choir
Junior choir is scheduled to start back up on Wednesday, September 13th, and we hope you and your friends will want to be part of the fun!
Junior choir meets from 4:00-5:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the church, and includes a snack, recreation time, singing, and bell ringing. Most Lincolnview and Spencerville kids are able to get off the bus right at the church, which makes it easy to attend. If we need to provide alternate transportation for your child, we will contact you to make arrangements. We provide special music for worship about two times a month, beginning in October.
Parents and other supporters within the congregation sign-up to provide snacks and help with that portion of the program each week. The sign-up sheet for weekly helpers and snacks is posted in the north vestibule if you would like to sign-up. Children begin arriving at the church at 3:30 p.m., so you need to have your snacks to the church by 3:15 p.m. on the Wednesdays for which you are responsible. We also ask that the snacks be low in sugar so the children aren’t bouncing off the walls and the helpers can keep their sanity.

Junior Choir – continued Cancellation Policy In terms of weather cancellations, we have choir unless Lincolnview cancels school. If your kids get off the bus here on a day when choir has been canceled, have them come over to the manse (if I’m not at the church) and I will make appropriate arrangements for them. Choir is over at 5:30 each Wednesday. If you have any questions, call Dana at 667-4142. Wendy
*Three hour delays: Van Wert County Schools are instituting a 3 hour delay for fog this year, which will result in school dismissing one hour later. We will still have choir these days, and will still dismiss at 5:30 p.m.
Junior Choir Rules On Sundays when your child plays bells, they must be at church at 8:45 a.m. for practice. If the child won’t be there, call Kathy McCollow at 667-3570 and let her know so she may assign the bell to someone else and they have a chance to practice with that bell.
On Sundays when your child sings, they must be at church at 9:00 a.m. for practice.
Beginning this year, children must come to 22 out of the 28 days junior choir meets to get a t-shirt at the end of the junior choir year. Also, there will be special recognition for perfect attendance along with our traditional junior choir certificate. |
Alpha Kappa
Alpha Kappa Class meets Tuesday, September 12th at 6:30 p.m. for a dinner meeting at the "I Don’t Care Grill" in Van Wert.
Anyone wanting to join Alpha Kappa is very welcome.
Women’s Association

Hostesses will be Marian Morris and Betty Bolton. Roll call will be a "Thought for the Day." All women are welcome to join us in a time of prayer, devotions, study, and fellowship.

From the Session
Session has been looking at the ways in which we communicate, and is continually looking for ways to strengthen our communication. The last two months they have looked at the newsletter and the bulletin. The bulletin has been getting so long that there is a growing concern that it is not all read. Also, since not everybody is here every Sunday, there is a concern that those who are absent may miss important announcements.
To address these issues, session has decided that beginning in September, the bulletin will be limited to the following items: Order of Worship, Flower Information, Coming Week’s Calendar, Financial Update, and Prayer Concerns. All other news and information will be placed in the monthly newsletter. Our hope is that this will serve two purposes: it will make the bulletin a more manageable size, and it will assure that important information gets into every home, whether or not the family is present in worship on a particular Sunday.
If you have ideas or suggestions on ways to improve communication or strengthen the newsletter or bulletin, please speak to a member of session.
